Have you heard the term “Sensory Diet” and wondered what exactly that is?

While we nourish our bodies with food, we also nourish our bodies with sensations that come from our environment and our actions.

Scheduling and/or integrating sensory based activities into our daily routines help us to obtain the sensory information we need to regulate our attention and focus. It also aids to calm in overwhelming environments and give our bodies greater awareness to perform our daily tasks efficiently.

We will explore ways to look at our daily routines, to determine what inputs are needed and when. Next we will explore ways to modify our environment and activities to get the sensory input we are craving and need!

Objectives

  • Participants will gain and understanding of “Sensory Diet”
  • Participants will be able to identify times in their daily routines where sensory input would be of benefit.
  • Participants will be able to identify ways to adapt tasks and/or environments to get the input needed.
