The Sensorium Chamber Ensemble of Detroit is led by composer/saxophonist/guitarist Ben Miller. The group plays compositions and arrangements by Miller. Miller first came to the fore with the art-damaged punk group, Destroy All Monsters featuring members of the Stooges and the MC5. Ben has always had an eye toward the avant garde and has been composing works ever since his early beginnings. Many of these can be heard on recent releases on Cuneiform and Two Rooms Records. Miller's work was recently featured on the 2182 Records release Born for Years with his ethnic no-wave group, Porcelain Hammer. On this night, Miller presents a body of new work along with arrangements of a couple of older works. The unconventional instrumentation includes strings, winds, percussion and electric guitar. This is your chance to experience home grown new music from one of Detroit's more thoughtful composers.
KBD is a trio of musicians who perform long form improvisational sound pieces using electroacoustic instrumentation. This approach is experimental by both nature and design, and serves as a way for listeners to engage with deep and active listening. Its principal members are Michael Kimaid, Gabriel Beam, and Ryan Dohm. For nearly twenty years, KBD has explored the liminal spaces between sound, music, and noise, and have developed an approach that is constantly evolving in the process. The trio’s current configuration explores the theme of resonance as a way of creating sonic room for each other to contribute to a larger whole. Wood, wind, and metals combine to lay a sonic foundation; circuitry and amplification take those signals and affect them to create a soundscape that constantly expands and contracts in the process. Like the larger patterns and cycles they represent, each piece is different, and reflective of the time and place in which they manifest.
