About this Event

Join Dr Mahutoa ‘Pasha’ Clothier as they explore what it means to hold space between Tangata Whenua, Moana, and Western European knowledge systems. Drawing on their PhD research and a presentation shared at the 30th International Symposium on Electronic/Emerging Art (ISEA2025) in Seoul, this session introduces Knowledge as Dimensional—a framework that honours Moana ways of knowing as interconnected and whole. Rather than breaking knowledge into parts or sharing sacred content out of context, the talk invites us to consider how kaupapa, acknowledgement, and collaboration can guide knowledge exchange. Opening with a short creative video, this session weaves story, scholarship, poetry and lived experience into a dimensional kōrero.

Speaker Bio

Dr Mahutoa ‘Pasha’ Clothier is part of the Moana diaspora with whakapapa to Tahiti, Hitiaurevareva (Pitcairn) and Te Wai Pounamu. For twenty years, they worked collaboratively with tangata whenua as artist, organiser and educator, presenting creative works in the fields of art-science, cultural bridging and environment in twenty-two countries.

ABOUT THE STORY WORLDS FESTIVAL

Story Worlds is a new festival that invites audiences to experience storytelling as a rich, interconnected practice—through the written word, material culture, and oral traditions. Explore the programme, which stretches across Puke Ariki Museum, Libraries, and the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery | Len Lye Centre for four days of sessions that celebrate storytelling in all its forms and honour the ways stories help us make sense of ourselves, each other, and the world we share.

The Gallery is set over a number of levels, which are connected by ramps, stairs and an elevator. All spaces and facilities are mobility-friendly. We have manual wheelchairs available for use while at the Gallery, and mobility spaces available in the Len Lye Centre Cinema.
