Join musician and educator Vanessa Mio in AWE’s education studio for a creative workshop that brings together live performance, conversation, and hands-on artmaking. The workshop will begin with an introduction and a discussion of the powerful connection between music and visual art: How can we interpret sound through imagery, and in what ways does music spark creativity? As Vanessa performs, you’ll be invited to explore these ideas by creating your own drawings or paintings, guided by one of our educators.
About the Facilitator: Dr. Vanessa Mio-Quiring
Dr. Vanessa Mio-Quiring is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Windsor, where she teaches music and visual arts methodology for preservice teachers. She directs the Windsor String Academy and Lab School, serves as String Discipline Specialist for the Royal Conservatory of Music College of Examiners, and performs as a violinist with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra. Vanessa holds a PhD in Educational Studies from the University of Windsor and music degrees from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. Her research, supported by a SSHRC Insight Development Grant, explores social-emotional learning and creativity in string education. She is an active clinician, speaker, and adjudicator across North America.
