Key note speaker

David Bartrum OBE

David has led special educational needs and disability provision (SEND) in London schools for over 15 years. Author of the SEND Review Guide, a national framework funded by the DfE and editor of Great Expectations, Leading an Effective SEND Strategy in School.

He was Director of SEND at the London Leadership Strategy and an advisor to the Mayor of London’s education team. David was awarded an OBE for Services to Special Education in the 2016 New Year’s Honours list.



Speakers

Marica Brissett-Bailey

Marcia is an inspirational speaker, co-author and passionate advocate and champion for dyslexia and neurodiversity. She was named one of the Top 50 Influential Neurodivergent Women of 2022 and was winner of the British Dyslexia Association (BDA) Adult Award 2022.

Marcia is the author of Black, Brilliant and Dyslexic. As a dyslexia advocate and champion, she is passionate about empowering other dyslexic and neurodivergent people to find their voice.

Marcia has worked in the education community sector for the last 30 years, providing information, advice, and guidance in higher education and post-16, as well as being a SEND lead.


Gary Aubin

Gary is the author of The Lone SENDCO, a handbook of 300 questions and answers for busy SENDCOs. He works as the Education Endowment Foundation's Associate for SEND, having been their SEND Content Specialist. In this role, he has spoken to hundreds of school leaders about the evidence base behind high-quality teaching for SEND.
Gary led on SEND provision for a Multi Academy Trust of 10 primary and secondary schools for several years, and has recently joined Whole Education, in which he is working to support MAT SEND Leads and SENDCOs working across the country. He writes postgraduate SEND content for the National Institute of Teaching and Real Training. He is a secondary teacher, former primary and secondary SENDCO and former secondary Head of Year. Gary also authors the SENDMattersUK blog


Matt Stone

Matt Stone is a highly regarded teacher developer, pedagogical coach, and school improvement consultant with 15 years’ experience working as an English teacher in South Wales, UK. As a senior leader and regional professional learning lead, he has supported schools across the UK to develop their approaches to professional development and instructional coaching.

Matt is currently Director of Education at Teaching WalkThrus and is a regular speaker at national and international education conferences.


The Birmingham SEND Tool Kit - Lisa McIntyre

Birmingham SEN Toolkits are not just another assessment system for SEN. They are a toolkit of teaching and learning strategies that support mainstream primary class teachers in the full Graduated Response of Assess-Plan-Do-Review, for all pupils working below age-related expectations in language, literacy and maths.

Lisa supports schools to assess skills, plan teaching and review small step progress with the Birmingham SEN toolkits.


John Tomsett

John has taught in state schools for 33 years, including 18 years as a secondary headteacher. He has co-authored nine books, including the Huh curriculum series with Mary Myatt, and they’re currently collaborating on their final book, ‘Alternative Provision Huh’. As the former headteacher of Huntington Research School, John advocates for an evidence-informed approach to school improvement.


Gerry Robinson

Gerry is the Executive Headteacher across Haringey’s alternative provision schools, including a pupil referral unit, tuition service, SEMH provision, outreach services, respite provision & adolescent psychiatric inpatient provision.
Gerry is passionate about raising achievement and eradicating educational disadvantage through inclusive education in inner London schools. Gerry is a CollectivEd Fellow, on the LGBTedUK Advisory Board member & Trustee of FirstStory
