About this Event
Stanley Picker Gallery is pleased to be holding a special drop-in (welcome anytime event) for SEND children, and their families.
The session will be led by a team of Kingston School of Art students and alumni, and will include the opportunity to participate in creative activities, such as badge making and plant pot painting, and to visit our current exhibition, . Images of this exhibition can be found on the linked webpage.
Through an immersive installation of moving image, print, filtration sculptures and sound, the Haunted Ecologies considers how our perception of contemporary environment and culture, and each other, can be haunted by supposition, by spectres of the past, and by hopes and visions of the future. Pausz’s research reflects upon transformations of local ecosystems, in particular the Hogsmill River that surrounds Stanley Picker Gallery, and flows alongside the Hogsmill Community Garden, who are partners for this exhibition. The garden will be open 11am-3pm, and we encourage all to visit!
Gallery Location & Accessibility Stanley Picker Gallery is an accessible venue, situated on a small island on the Hogsmill River, behind Kingston School of Art, an approx. 10-minute walk from Kingston Town Centre. We have free onsite parking, shared with Middle Mill Halls of Residence. Please refer to www.stanleypickergallery.org/about/visit/for more information and images.
Please note that the main gallery lights are dimmed to afford clarity to the moving image pieces, which also have water-themed soundtracks. Activities will take place in our day-lit areas and visual stories displayed to encourage engagement. Members of our team will be on hand to make adjustments and offer support wherever needed, and if you wish to discuss access requirements further, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Visual stories and sesnsory bags are accessible, and quiet areas designated.
Public opening is from 11am onward, though we are typically quieter in the mornings, and signpost during workshops to make visitors aware.
Clothing
Our activities can be messy. Gloves and smocks will be provided, but we recommend wearing suitable clothing.
