APIE SEMINARĄ: Most counselors and therapists claim they “don’t work with children,” but in fact, they do. When working on relationship issues at home and at work in therapy, most of our adult clients push against many aspects of younger versions of themselves. Sometimes playful, sometimes suffering, always interesting — these younger parts of our clients invite our inner children into the room. It’s critical that we are prepared for these invitations, and have a working model for staying grounded when clients are regressed and vulnerable.
This two-day workshop will include how to help adults — in the workplace, in romantic and social relationships, and as parents — to stay stable when their younger parts get activated. Insecurities from adolescence, dysfunctional family systems issues, and other unfinished business can get in the way of successful and satisfying relationships. Re-parenting inner children and integrating disowned parts of self due to trauma and attachment difficulties are important aspects of therapy with adults.
Discussion Points:
* Helping adult clients manage their inner children and adolescents during times of stress and transition — new jobs, new romance, breakups, and friendship challenges
* Developmental issues and how they create adult problems with contact and self support.
* How our inner children can help is to re-claim a full emotional life
* Mean girls and bullies: facing anxiety and insecurity in group situations
* Differentiating anxious parents from personality disordered parents -- past and present -- and how to best serve the needs of your adult clients
* Getting grounded: how to manage hopes for change based on adult clients’ family history and where they fit on the “Dissociative Continuum”
