Learn the basics of taking your project from idea to budget with TEAM Producing Director Emma Orme and Mercury Store's John Del Gaudio.
About this Event

So you’re considering self-producing your next show… now what? Learn how to translate your vision into a budget in this workshop led by TEAM Producing Director Emma Orme and Mercury Store Producer John Del Gaudio. We’ll demystify the budgeting process, from the big picture—how you translate your values and artistic goals into predicted expenses—to the nitty gritty—how you even deal with a damn spreadsheet. In this 3-hour session, we will:

  • Work together to draft a first budget for a show, using one of yours as a starting point
  • Identify best practices and common pitfalls in the budgeting process and share strategies for right-sizing based on your context
  • Share some insight from our own experience making work in the independent performing arts scene
  • Leave you feeling like budgets are somewhat approachable?!

This intimate workshop is designed for artists or ensembles who are looking to self-produce their work—but would really be useful to anyone considering producing outside the structure of an institution. You’ll leave with a budget template and a set of best practices to help guide you through your own producing process.
