At Everything Outdoor Camping & Tactical, we believe self-defense training should be practical, approachable, and focused on getting you home safe, not “winning a fight.” Our Self Defense: Escape + Create Distance class is designed for women of all experience levels (and men and teens 13+ who want the same real-world skills) who want simple tools to respond when a situation turns uncomfortable or threatening.Hosted by Melanie Sinkie McCavish, an accomplished martial arts instructor and experienced public safety professional, this training blends hands-on coaching with real-life discussion. The goal is straightforward: build awareness, create space, break contact when needed, and get to safety.
You’ll work through practical topics like:
Situational awareness and recognizing problems early
Boundary-setting and verbal skills to shut things down fast
Escape-focused techniques to create distance and leave safely
Simple movement and positioning that works under stress
Real-world scenarios and “what to do before it gets physical”
This class is casual, fun, and educational, and it’s built for beginners. No experience required.
Teens (13+) are welcome with a parent/legal guardian.
