Join us for a fascinating look at wildfire — not just as a threat, but as a force our forests actually need.We live in one of the most beautiful forested landscapes in the country — and one of the most fire-prone. But what if the fires we fear are also essential to the health of the ecosystems we love? This Salon explores the surprising science of wildfire: why forests evolved to burn, how fire shapes the ecology of our mountain communities, and how experts balance letting fire do its work while keeping structures and people safe.
