Seeing the City: Experiential Urban Design Walkabout
(1.5 CM Pening) Join us for an in-person adventure exploring the city's coolest urban design spots, like Hart Plaza, Campus Martius Park and The Belt! This walkabout is all about seeing the city through a fresh lens like William Whyte, Kevin Lynch and Jan Gehl have—discover how thoughtful design shapes our everyday life. Whether you're a design newbie or a seasoned professional, come experience the streets like never before. Get ready to explore, learn, and connect with fellow urban enthusiasts on this casual, fun walkabout.
This is a pilot project funded through a research grant from APA. Your participation will inform the research and could be included in the final publication and webinar. We'll stop at three iconic public spaces in Downtown Detroit and use observational analysis to document the spaces.
Sketchbooks and materials will be provided. Rain or shine. We'll meet in the lobby of the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center, then walk to Hart Plaza, Campus Martius Park and the Belt. Consider bringing a hat, sunscreen and water for yourself.
