About this Event
Drawing on nearly forty years of research and new interviews with young adults and cultural figures from a wide range of backgrounds, Lamont explores the idea of recognition, the simple but powerful act of acknowledging the worth of others. She shows how our society has often measured success through achievement and status, sometimes overlooking the many different ways people contribute, belong, and find meaning.
Rather than focusing on what divides us, Lamont highlights the power of shared values, thoughtful narratives, and everyday actions to reduce stigma and foster understanding. Like Robert Putnam’s Bowling Alone for an earlier generation, Seeing Others speaks to the challenges of our time and offers a hopeful vision for living better together.
This event is for anyone interested in thoughtful conversation, community life, and finding constructive ways to move forward together.
This presentation will be followed by a Q&A, a book signing, and a glass of wine.
In person event in English.
