About this Event

A practical workshop focused on the teaching and development of early sentence work across EYFS and KS1

The Ofsted guidance, Telling the story: the English education subject report, recommends that we teach sentence construction explicitly throughout the school and provide sufficient practice for pupils to become confident in sentence composition, so as to minimise reliance on scaffolds and editing when writing.
In this online session, we will:
• Unpick curriculum expectations and progression for sentence work in EYFS and KS1
• Explore research-based best practice guidance for teaching and developing sentence work, from oral composition to writing
• Consider potential challenges and barriers to pupils grasping the concept of sentences, along with approaches and strategies to overcome these
Suitable for English Subject Leaders, Class Teachers and Teaching Assistants, Staff working with KS2 pupils who find difficulty in early sentence work may also find this session helpful in providing strategies and approaches to scaffold their learning.
The course will run via Zoom with opportunities for practical activities and breakout discussions. Course handouts and resources will be sent prior to the session.
