About this Event
Join us for a magical evening at the Hugh Lane Gallery as we celebrate Samhain, one of the most important festivals in the Celtic calendar.
Known as the time when the veil between the living and the spirit world is thinnest, Samhain offers a unique opportunity to honor the dead, engage in divination, and prepare for the winter months ahead.
In this workshop, you will:
- Create your own smudge stick using traditional Irish herbs such as mugwort, yarrow, and rowan.
- Learn the magical and medicinal properties of these plants and how they’ve been used for protection, divination, and healing in Samhain rituals.
- Explore the rich lore and history behind Samhain, the ancient festival marking the transition into the "dark half" of the year.
Whether you're looking to learn more about Irish traditions, or simply celebrate the season, this workshop is the perfect way to embrace the magic of Samhain.
What to Bring: All materials will be provided. Just bring your curiosity and an open mind!
Tickets include 1 complementary drink (alcohol or non-alcohol options available)
What the smudge?
A smudge stick is a bundle of dried herbs, that is burned for the purpose of purifying a space or an object. Please note: you will not be able to burn your smudge stick at the gallery and Hugh Lane Gallery or Dublin City Council take no responsibility for any accidents that occur when burning your smudge stick at home.
