The public is invited to join our artsy and intellectual casual Salon del RGV conversations on the 2nd Thursday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. at CommonSpace coffee shop in McAllen.
Our April 9th Featured Speaker is Ashlynn Delias, who will present “TheTheology of Everything” why learning the Bible and other religious myths and narratives is crucial to being a participant in American culture/politics.
Ashlynn Delias is a theologian, educator, and published poet whose work explores how faith, meaning, and belief systems shape every aspect of human life. She is the recipient of the David Knox Porter Award for Theology and the Norman Spellman Award for Excellence in Religious Studies, honors recognizing both academic excellence and creative engagement with theology.
Ashlynn’s academic curiosity is intentionally wide-ranging. Her studies include classical Christian theology alongside subjects as varied as astrology and Scientology, grounded in the conviction that everyone operates from a theology—whether they name it that way or not. From medicine to politics, art to ethics, theology quietly informs how people understand the world, make decisions, and assign value.
Known for her high energy, humor, and love of big questions, Ashlynn brings an accessible and dynamic approach to serious ideas. She believes theology should be rigorous, honest, and woven into real life—not confined to classrooms or sanctuaries. When she’s not teaching or researching, she can usually be found reading multiple books at once, writing poetry, or two-stepping whenever the opportunity arises.
The Featured Artist will be Jessica Monroe.
Our featured nonprofit will be announced as well.
Salon del RGV is brought to you by the Seven To Eight Poetry Project, a program of the McAllen Poet Laureate, Daniel García Ordaz.
“Salon” sa•lon noun 1. an artful conversation held monthly where artists, writers, and arts professionals, and arts and philosophy-minded individuals come together to bond, network and get out of their heads for a little while. It is a conversation; a support group; sometimes a counseling session; always a networking extravaganza; an experimental lab for new ideas; a place to learn and grow by leaps and bounds as an artist and a professional.
