About this Event
For centuries, people have gathered by the sea in summer to relax, connect and feast. Join Trudy and Freya for a barefoot forage along the stunning rockpools of Carswell Farm’s shoreline and discover how to sustainably harvest and enjoy mineral-rich seaweeds, along with a variety of wild summer edibles from the hedgerows and organic meadows.
After our coastal exploration, we’ll return to Carswell’s Field Kitchen prepare, cook and taste our wild harvest – finishing with a nourishing feast celebrating the rich umami flavours of sea shore fare. Expect an Asian – inspired meal followed by delicate gorse flower pannacotta!
Please note: The route includes a steep climb and steps to the beach, with some clambering over rockpools….rewarded with spectacular coastal views! Bring suitable footwear for walking across fields and rockpools along with a water bottle and a snack.
Due to the terrain, there is very limited access for anyone with mobility impairments, we are also unable to accommodate dogs for this event. Sorry.

"I have been fascinated by wild foods for most of my life. Working in conservation in South Devon for 20 years gave me the privilege to explore the hidden valleys, coastline, estuaries and woodlands and experience nature daily at first hand. I love to use wild food in favourite recipes and explore ways of preserving it. Sharing knowledge and good food together is a fabulous way to spend time in nature. I have led foraging events for the National Trust, South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Deer Wood Trust, Ackerll’s Rewilding Project and for families and celebrations. I have led forages at Carswell Farm for Newton Ferrers Primary School for several years. Now, thanks to the owners, I have the chance to share the wild riches of over a thousand acres of carefully managed organic land and seashore with you. "
