About this Event
Join us for an evening celebrating the release of Kathryn Tann's debut essay collection, Seaglass. Kathryn will be in conversation with local Welsh author and historian, Jon Gower, author of The Turning Tide. Refreshments will be provided!
Kathryn Tann is a writer, editor and creative producer from the coast of South Wales, currently living in North Yorkshire. She studied English literature at Durham University and Creative Writing at Manchester, and has published numerous stories, essays and articles, as well as audio pieces. She speaks regularly on topics linked to writing and the book industry.
‘True to its name, Seaglass is awash with bright, hard shards of truth and beauty, to be sifted by the reader and held up to the light. What dazzling colours and shapes they make, and how joyful to spend time lost in their intricate patterns. A truly accomplished and thoughtful collection.’ - Mike Parker, author of Map Addict and All The Wide Border.
On a windswept stretch of the Durham coastline, there’s treasure to be found: jewels of shining sea glass, swept in by the tide after years at sea. Gathered together and displayed in a jar on the windowsill to sparkle in the light, each seaworn glass pebble represents a moment in time, a breadcrumb trail of unknowable people and places.
In her debut collection Seaglass, Kathryn Tann brings together moments such as these from her own life, blending creative non-fiction with nature writing and memoir, and portraying with powerful observation and moving honesty the journey of a young woman navigating modern adulthood.
