San Diego Printmaking Society presents: Print Day in May
Join us for a full day of printmaking, community, and celebration at Union Hall Gallery in Golden Hill.
Print Day in May is an annual global celebration of printmaking, where artists, studios, and organizations across the world create prints and invite the public to experience the process. Rooted in access, collaboration, and shared making, this event brings that global moment into a local, community-driven space in San Diego.
Hosted by the San Diego Printmaking Society, this activation brings together artists, educators, and collectives for a dynamic and immersive experience centered around print culture.
Throughout the day, attendees can engage with:
- Live printmaking demonstrations
- Free hands-on workshops open to all skill levels
- Artist booths featuring prints, zines, and print-based work
- Interactive printmaking activities for all ages
- A cyanotype workshop led by photographer and SDPS Exhibitions Manager Sarai Elguezabal (2:30–3:30 PM)
- A monotype workshop led by SDPS Founder Kelvin Lopez (4:00–5:00 PM)
- A final printmaking demonstration from 5:00–6:00 PM
- Closing remarks at 6:00 PM
Additional activations include free tote bags by Miranda Ink, a free printmaking activity with Hello Barkada, button making and community engagement with Inside:Art, botanical printing by Bogdana Voitenko, and an Oaxacan print display by Barro-Koo, with more participants to be announced.
The event will also feature live DJs spinning vinyl throughout the day, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere that transitions into an evening celebration from 6:00–8:00 PM with music, movement, and community gathering. Light refreshments and an open bar will be available.
This event is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome.
Whether you are new to printmaking or deeply involved in the medium, this is an opportunity to learn, create, connect, and be part of a growing printmaking community in San Diego.
