We are a collection of people who are interested in filmmaking and writing for the screen. We usually meet every-other Friday evening at the Film Las Cruces office in downtown Las Cruces. Meeting times are from 6:00 - 8:00pm and are free and open to the public. Writers of all experience levels are welcome.WHAT WE DO
Every meeting is an opportunity for members to present material that is oriented toward film or
tv storytelling. Members are invited to present original material in the form of:
-Ideas
-Log lines
-Synopses
-Treatments
-Script pages (10-12 maximum per session)
Things we will discuss about presented material:
-Character development
-Plot
-Structure and pacing
-Style and format
-Theme and emotional impact
-Marketability and audience potential
-The business of screenwriting
WHY WE DO IT
Writing is a solitary task. Meeting like-minded creatives who face similar struggles is often inspirational and helpful. In addition, getting feedback on your screenplay is essential, ensuring that the ideas you are intending to present are translating in an understandable way to an audience. Gaining fluency in discussing screenplay dynamics and writing processes will help you become more prepared for a professional career in the film industry.
It is especially important to get feedback with a focus on the demands of the film industry at large. There are many aspects to a professional approach to screenwriting, both in style and format, and the more you know about this, the more successful your writing will become.
Film has a language all its own, and screenwriting is the foundation of that language. In our group, we keep an eye toward professional structure and dialog, while being courteous and
supportive.
Current group Manager Bob Giordano has had many years of experience writing, teaching, and consulting on the art and craft of screenwriting.
