Report 5923 is a sci-fi film co-written, visualised and soundtracked with artificial intelligence. The script was produced in collaboration with an LLM which was fine-tuned on Ursula K. Le Guin's novel 'The Dispossessed', and the resulting story was brought to life using a variety of different AI tools.
The film follows the protagonist, Shevek, on her journey between three different planets whilst compiling what seems to be an ethnographic report. Sound, sonic warfare and audio-as-virus are reoccurring themes throughout the story, which more broadly deals with notions of world-building, techno-optimism and emancipatory politics. The work attempts to deploy ideas found in a diverse range of references, from philosophical texts (particularly those of Gilles Deleuze & FΓ©lix Guattari), to musical artists such as Autechre and Brian Eno, or to filmmakers like Chris Marker.
Report 5923's completion was part-funded by AI company Elevenlabs (whose tools are used throughout the film).
