About this Event
Join us for an exclusive screening of The Life Apart (La Vita Accanto), the 2024 Italian drama directed by Marco Tullio Giordana. Set in Vicenza during the early 1980s, the film explores themes of familial acceptance, societal beauty standards, and the transformative power of music. La Vita Accanto premiered out of competition at the 77th Locarno Film Festival.
In the picturesque city of Vicenza, a wealthy couple celebrates the birth of their long-awaited daughter, Rebecca, in the early 1980s. Their joy is overshadowed when they discover a prominent red birthmark covering half of Rebecca's face. Unable to cope, her mother withdraws, leaving Rebecca's upbringing to her aunt Erminia, a renowned concert pianist. Under Erminia's guidance, Rebecca's exceptional musical talent flourishes, offering her a path to self-acceptance and challenging the prejudices of those around her.
