This documentary explores the history of the Slovo House in 1920s–30s Kharkiv, then the capital of Soviet Ukraine, and the fate of the Ukrainian writers who lived there. Bringing together archival materials, testimonies, and literary texts, the film reconstructs the lives of those who became central to what is now known as the "Executed Renaissance" — a vibrant cultural movement that marked a decisive moment
The destruction of this generation under Stalinist repression was not only a political tragedy, but a profound rupture in Ukraine’s cultural development, the consequences of which continue to shape Ukrainian intellectual life today. By recovering these voices, the film highlights both the richness of Ukrainian cultural history and the enduring importance of preserving it in the face of repeated attempts to erase it.
