Hamid Dabashi signs his new book, Where is Abbas Kiarostami?, after the screening.
Enjoy a 35th anniversary screening of one of renowned director Abbas Kiarostami’s most radical masterpieces. This documentary-fiction hybrid is the true story of a man who was arrested for impersonating the well-known filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalbaf. Kiarostami uses this event as a launching pad for a multi-layered meditation on fact, fiction, filmmaking and identity, with the people involved in the case playing themselves. Its stunning upending of film form resonated with audiences around the world and established Kiarostami as a startlingly original force in world cinema. Hamid Dabashi introduces the screening and leads a discussion afterward, followed by a book signing in the Sackler shop. (Dir.: Abbas Kiarostami, Iran, 1990, 98 min., DCP, Persian with English subtitles)
