Screenagers Under the Influence Film & Hidden in Plain Sight Trailer

Chesterfield County Public Schools, Chesterfield Prevention Services, and Substance Abuse Free Environment (SAFE) have pulled together an event that families of teens and tweens will not want to miss!

5:30-6:30 pm - Hidden in Plain Sight trailer exhibit, front loop of library

6:30 pm - Screenagers Under the Influence screening (1 hour) Library Meeting Room

7:30- until 7:45 pm- Question and answer, Hidden in Plain Sight exhibit

“Screenagers Under the Influence: Addressing Vaping, Drugs and Alcohol in the Digital Age" examines the impact of technology on teens' decision-making about vaping, drugs and alcohol. Exploring the latest research and learning more about the personal experiences of teens and families, the film highlights the changing landscape of the substances, offering solutions for how to best empower teens as they face decisions about what they will and will not be influenced by.

The film debunks myths and depicts strategies parents and schools can use to encourage healthy decision-making, support teen mental health, set limits and create healthy home environments. The film also includes many ways young people are using their wisdom and strength to help each other and themselves through this complicated terrain around substance use.

Hidden in Plain Sight" is an interactive, educational exhibit designed for parents, caregivers, and community members to learn about, and spot, signs of teen substance use and risky behavior.

Key Details of the Exhibit:

• The Experience: The event typically features a simulated teenager’s bedroom where, over 5–10 minutes, attendees search for items that indicate potential drug, alcohol, or other risky behavior.
• What is Shown: Items often include everyday objects that have been repurposed or hidden, such as disguised drug paraphernalia, hidden alcohol, vapes, or over-the-counter medications.
