Come Try Scottish Country Dance in Uptown Waterloo!
Join us for a fun class designed for beginners. The class is high-energy but the footwork isnโ€™t too complicated (this isnโ€™t Highland dance or tap dancing!).
In each session, you'll:
Practice some footwork
Learn and practice dance formations
Learn new dances every time. With over 22,000 dances in the Scottish Country Dance repertoire, there's always something new to learn โ€” you'll never get bored!
No experience needed, and no kilt or ghillies required. Just bring a water bottle, comfortable clothes, and soft-soled shoes. If you already have ballet shoes, jazz shoes, or ghillies, even better! (Please no heels!)
You donโ€™t need to bring a partner, but be ready to dance with others โ€” Scottish Country Dance is all about community and fun!
About the teacher:
Claire began Scottish Country Dance in Lyon, France (her home country), and has never looked back! Her passion for Scottish Country Dance has taken her around the world, including Scotland, England, Switzerland, Germany, Norway, Italy, Australia, the US, and, of course, Canada.
During Summer 2024, Claire earned the first part of her Scottish Country Dance teaching certificate in St Andrews, Scotland. She is currently working on the second part and is planning to become fully certified in St Andrews during summer 2026.
Claire has also competed several times, including leading the first North American Team to compete at the Newcastle Festival in the UK, bringing home two trophies in 2025.
She is now part of the organizing committee for the first North American Festival of Scottish Country Dance โ€” a competition inspired by the Newcastle Festival, but held in North America.
