The Art of Orchestration: From DAW to Screen will cover how to compose a cue with good orchestration practices in mind, which ensures the compositions are easily understood on the scoring stage. Join us in a conversation with veteran orchestrator, conductor, and arranger David Shipps to delve into topics such as orchestration basics, workflow practices, how to work with an orchestrator, and best practices for prepping a session when working with an orchestrator.
David Shipps is a veteran orchestrator, arranger, and conductor whose extensive work in television, film, and video games has seen him work with composers such as John Debney, Trevor Morris, Heitor Pereira, Stephen Barton, Wilbert Roget II, and Carter Burwell. He has contributed his orchestration skills on projects across multiple mediums, including Despicable Me 4, Call of Duty, EA Sports College Football, London Has Fallen, Star Wars: Outlaws, Vikings, and Lost in Space. He has conducted over 75 different projects across all genres, for familiar names such as Disney, Harry Potter, Sony PlayStation, and Netflix.
Jonathan Grow is a composer and pianist based in Nashville, working in television, advertising, and production music. His work can be heard in shows such as Love Transit, Relative Secrets, and NFL Total Access. He serves on the Steering Committee for the SCL in Nashville, where he also chairs the Seminars Committee, regularly moderating industry panels, and helping to foster community and professional development among fellow composers.
Parking in the SESAC garage is free for the evening.
