The Queen was instantly recognisable but Victorian women, including those from Ranmoor, were largely unseen, except by their families and friends. Even today Victoria remains a familiar figure, while the wives, widows and spinsters of Ranmoor have become all but invisible. How did they live? What were their concerns and their interests?
