About this Event

☀️ Sun Prints: Capturing Nature with Light

Hosted by Wildflower Data and Learning
Ages 8 and up

Step into the magic where sunlight becomes your paintbrush! In this hands-on science-meets-art workshop, participants will create cyanotype “sun prints”—beautiful blue images made using the chemistry of light.
Children and families will arrange natural objects such as leaves, flowers, and feathers on special light-sensitive paper. When exposed to sunlight, the paper undergoes a chemical reaction that captures delicate silhouettes in striking shades of blue and white.

Through guided exploration, kids will:

  • Discover how UV light triggers photochemical reactions
  • Learn how early scientists used cyanotypes to record plants and photographs
  • Experiment with exposure times, pattern layering, and rinsing techniques

Each participant will take home their own collection of luminous cyan-blue prints inspired by the natural world.

Join us for a radiant day where science and sunlight create art that shines long after the workshop ends!
