Ukończył studia licencjackie i magisterskie we Włoszech na Uniwersytecie Neapolitańskim im. Fryderyka II (wł.
Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II). Swoją pracę magisterską poświęcił nieprzemiennym czasoprzestrzeniom (noncommutative spacetimes). Po krótkim stypendium młodszego pracownika naukowego, przeniósł się do Wrocławia, gdzie obecnie realizuje studia doktoranckie z zakresu Teorii Strun (String Theory). Jest autorem publikacji naukowych oraz wygłosił szereg referatów na międzynarodowych konferencjach poświęconych tym zagadnieniom.
Poza fizyką opublikował kilka opowiadań w języku włoskim, poruszających różnorodne tematy i eksplorujących wątki filozoficzne oraz mitologiczne, które należą do jego ulubionych zainteresowań.
TEMAT: Czy przyszłość jest już zapisana? „Arrival” i dziwna natura zasad działania.
OPIS: Ludzi od dawna fascynuje idea, że przyszłość może być już zapisana 📜✨. 17 kwietnia wyruszymy w podróż, aby przyjrzeć się, jak ta idea ewoluowała w czasie, prowadząc do niezwykłej konkluzji: że teraźniejszość kształtowana jest nie tylko przez przeszłość, ale także przez przyszłość ⏳🔮.

TITLE: Is the future already written? "Arrival" and the "weird" nature of action principles
SPEAKER: LUCA SCALA
He completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Italy at the University of Naples Federico II, graduating with a thesis on noncommutative spacetimes. After a short junior fellowship at the same institution, he moved to Wrocław, where he is currently pursuing a PhD in String Theory. He has published papers and delivered several talks at international conferences on these topics.
Beyond physics, he has published several short stories in Italian on a wide range of topics, exploring themes such as philosophy and mythology, which are among his favorite personal interests.
Description:
Since the dawn of time, humans have been fascinated by the idea that the future might already be written. Today we will embark on a journey to see how this idea evolved in time, leading to a striking possibility: that the present is shaped not only by the past, but also by the future. To help us navigating this stormy sea, we will anchor our journey in "Arrival", Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of Ted Chiang’s short story "Story of Your Life".
🕡 We start at 6:30 PM – come a bit earlier to get settled, enjoy a delicious cocoa, or have some homemade cake ☕🍪. It’s a moment to get to know each other and chat before the presentation.
The organizer will be there to welcome everyone and facilitate friendly discussions. Around 7:00 p.m., we’ll move into the presentation, followed by open-ended discussions afterward, giving us plenty of flexibility to continue the conversation naturally.
