Schubert’s “Lieder” songs
Schubert composed over 600 Lieder (songs) for voice and piano and revolutionised the genre with dramatic story-telling and emotional depth. He set up “Schubertiade” to gather friends together for long evenings to enjoy the songs. In this spirit the audience is warmly invited to chat to the performers before and after the concert so that the Schubert informal atmosphere is maintained.
The singers are absolutely top class and they’ve all sung leading roles at Covent Garden, Glyndebourne, The Proms and major opera houses across the world. Sholto Douglas, the Schubert@Co founder is at the piano with two sopranos, Harriet Burns and Katy Thompson, two mezzo-sopranos, Harriet Burns and Bethan Langford, Alessandro Fisher the tenor and Frederick Long, the bass-baritone. These are all five star singers. All the lieder are sung in German but translations of each song will be available to read as they sing.
