Scene Writing Basics: Starting Your Story

This crucial element is vital to a good story arc—it's the event that ignites the conflict. Without it, your story wouldn't exist. In this workshop, we'll use writing prompts to explore how to craft compelling inciting incidents.

In this workshop, you will:

• Learn different types of inciting incidents and how they fit your story.
• Use generative writing prompts to practice creating inciting incidents for new stories and your existing works-in-progress.
• Explore how to use the inciting incident to launch your character's arc and set up its conclusion.
• Receive a brief lesson on plotting to help structure your novel and develop character arcs.
• Discover techniques to unbalance your characters with the inciting incident and keep challenging them throughout the story (I know, we're a bit evil!)
• Connect with fellow writers.
