Caring for Ourselves as We Care for Others

by Nikita Gupta

Nikita Gupta, MPH is a dedicated educator and facilitator who has served service-based communities with practices and infrastructures for healing for over 24 years. She began as a yoga teacher at the YMCA and over many decades initiated and led numerous healing-centered programs at various schools and institutions, including within LAUSD and UCLA, to support the mental health and thriving for all members of the organization. She is particularly dedicated to advocating for and serving helping professionals, who are particularly vulnerable to the effects of oppression, fragmentation, and burnout that so many are experiencing. Her work is rooted in frameworks of collective empowerment and social healing, including trauma-informed care, neurobiology and mindfulness, and practices for collective care. Through training, coaching and collaboration she aims to foster a culture of resilience as we bravely move through the unknown, while finding joy in each day.

This session offers a space for ECE Professionals to pause, acknowledge the impact of their current experiences, and integrate accessible skills for restoration and well-being in daily moments as they care for others.

Objectives:

  • Reflect on dimensions of wellness and learn a framework for self-care.
  • Learn somatic tools for recognizing stress and enhancing emotional resilience.
  • Engage in an art activity to enhance self-care mindsets.
  • Integrate knowledge and skills into daily life as a service provider and beyond.

A Healthier You at Any Age: Self-Care in midlife and beyond

by Luz Chacon

Luz Chacon is a bilingual Wellness Coach and Consultant with over 30 years of experience in health and social services. I help midlife women regain their energy, reduce stress, and reset their health—and I support mission-driven organizations to prevent burnout and promote wellbeing in the workplace. Before launching my coaching and consulting business, I spent decades working in the nonprofit health and social services sector. I hold a Master’s in Public Health and advanced certifications in health coaching, Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT/Tapping), and trauma-informed EFT.But I don’t just bring credentials—I bring lived experience. As a single mom who transformed her own health in midlife, I understand the pressures of caregiving, stress, and putting your own needs last. I also understand the challenges of leading teams and serving vulnerable communities within the nonprofit sector where stress and burnout are common.I’ve coached private clients since 2013 and provided workplace wellness services for over 8 years. My practice includes individual coaching, group programs, and organizational consulting—all grounded in mind-body modalities, compassion, and cultural humility.

Objectives:

  • Recognize key physical and emotional changes that occur in midlife and beyond
  • Understand why previous diet, exercise, and self-care strategies may no longer be effective
  • Identify practical self-care strategies to support energy, mood, and overall health
  • Apply simple stress-reduction tools, including EFT tapping, to support emotional wellbeing
