🌬️ TOMORROW IS ANOTHER DAYScarlett O’Hara, Gone With the Wind, and the Women History Forgot
Women, War, and the Making of Memory
Presented by Southern Shadows Inc.
This spring, step beyond the myth of Gone With the Wind and into the real history it left behind.
This special Women’s History Month program blends curated film clips, historical storytelling, and guided discussion to explore how fiction shaped cultural memory of the Civil War—and how the truth for women across Georgia was far more complex, brutal, and enduring than the story ever captured.
Using Scarlett O’Hara as a cultural lens—not a heroine—this immersive event follows the long aftermath of war from Chickamauga to Atlanta and beyond, highlighting the women who became nurses, widows, caretakers, organizers, and memorial leaders after the fighting ended.
We will explore real historical voices, including Civil War nurse Kate Cummings, and honor the women behind the Ladies’ Memorial Associations, who gathered the dead, organized burials, and helped establish Decoration Days—early traditions that shaped the roots of Memorial Day.
✨ Come for the story you think you know.
Leave with the history you were never taught.
