Scaffold for Success: Business Process

Most problems in the skilled trades don’t come from the work—they come from unclear processes.
About this Event

Missed details, scope creep, unpaid change orders, and client disputes usually happen when there’s no clear system from first call to final payment. This workshop helps you build a simple, repeatable business process that protects you, keeps clients informed, and reduces chaos on your projects.

By the end of this workshop, you’ll leave with:

  • A visual map of your business process from lead to payment
  • Clear guidance on handling change orders properly
  • Practical tools to stay organized, reduce stress, and stay in control of your jobs

What you’ll learn

In this practical session, we’ll walk through a standard trades-based workflow and explain why each step matters:

Lead → Discovery → Estimate → Agreement → Job Execution → Invoice → Follow-up

You’ll learn:

  • Where work typically comes from and how to manage leads consistently
  • How to run a clear discovery conversation to avoid misunderstandings
  • Turning scope into a professional estimate and agreement
  • Why written agreements protect both you and your client
  • How communication at each stage prevents disputes and rework
  • Why follow-up after the job is finished is key to repeat work and referrals

The goal isn’t to tell you how to run your business—but to give you a process that supports you and keeps clients happy.

This workshop is ideal for:

  • Folks currently working in the skilled trades
  • Apprentices and journeypersons exploring independent work
  • New or experienced contractors who want more control over their projects
  • Tradespeople dealing with scope creep, unpaid extras, or client confusion

No business background required.
