A Celebration of Black Joy, Leadership & Legacy
A Black History gathering honoring Miami’s birth justice roots while raising critical support to build Southern Florida’s first nonprofit Birth & Wellness Center.
Birth justice was born in Miami—through the wisdom, courage, and leadership of Black midwives, birthworkers, families, and community organizers. Today, Southern Birth Justice Network (SBJN) carries that legacy forward by creating a permanent home for culturally grounded care, education, and community healing.
Hosted by Miami’s own Kalyn James, with music by DJ DLUXE, guests will experience live performances, a legacy portrait studio, recognition of SBJN staff and community partners, the premiere of SBJN’s Birth & Wellness Center campaign film, a live auction, and meaningful opportunities to give and connect to the movement.

CELEBRATION DETAILS
An immersive, joy-forward Black History fundraiser inspired by the past, present, and future of birth justice. The afternoon will include:
- Opening ritual & libations honoring Black midwives and ancestors
- Drumming, poetry, and visual storytelling
- Step into the Legacy Portrait Studio for an unforgettable photo
- Recognition awards for SBJN staff, elders, and community stakeholders
- Campaign film premiere for the Birth & Wellness Center
- Live giving moments, silent auction, and on-site QR donations
- A delicious appetizer buffet, paired with wine and fresh juices
- Music and celebration
