Say What Open Mic at Coffee Underground! featuring Asma Abike. All poetry styles welcome: page or stage! Open Mic slots for local poets on a first-come, first serve basis. Our feature Asma Abike is a poet, painter, and teaching artist from Charlotte, North Carolina, by way of Houston, Texas. She is a first-generation Nigerian-American Muslim woman. She is the inaugural Blackberry Peach National Slam Champion, a 2-time Charlotte Grand Slam Champion, Southern Fried Poetry Slam finalist, a Women of the Word Poetry Slam finalist, winner of the Jaki Shelton Green Performance Poetry Prize, and a Watering Hole graduate fellow. Her work appears in the North Carolina Literary Review, Anaheim Literary Review, Lucky Jefferson, and Epiphany.
