A brief introduction to herbal syrups and the art of herbal mocktail blending followed by a sampling of locally crafted herbal mocktails.
About this Event

Celebrate and savor the delicate flavors of summer, including delicious cooling mints and cheerful edible flowers. Spoonful Herbals community herbalist and bartender Jackie Bishop will provide delicious herbal “mocktails” featuring locally grown or wild-crafted medicinal plants, sparkling water, local honey, apple cider vinegar and edible flowers.

There will be a brief introduction to herbal syrup and shrub making, and the art and science of herbal mocktail blending for flavor and healing benefits. Add this skill to your toolkit for summer entertaining and celebrations!

Jackie Bishop is an herbalist, educator and artist with a love for culinary crafting. She is constantly inspired by plants and the natural world in all of her makings, whether that be in her glass work (her primary art medium) or in her botanical beverages and plant-based cooking. She connected with Spoonful Herbals in 2021, completing the Community Herbalism Apprenticeship Program and joining the team as the Social Media, Marketing and Program Support. She also holds an educator/director position at Davis Studio, South Burlington, and can occasionally be found mixing up drinks at a few local bars. As an educator, she enjoys sharing her varied skill sets in art, herbalism and crafting with others in a fun, simplified lesson giving the student room and encouragement to experiment and develop their own unique ideas!

Spoonful Herbals is the collaborative effort of community herbalists and educators Katherine Elmer and Kara Buchanan. Spoonful offers an annual Herbal CSA, which includes 3 seasonal herbal self-care packages: each providing 4-5 varied formulas, with detailed educational guidance about the plant ingredients and their uses, and educational events for members, all for $150, with convenient share pickup at Railyard Apothecary. Spoonful also runs a 6-month Community Herbalism Apprenticeship program where students learn how to identify, harvest, and create remedies from native and locally-grown medicinal herbs. Spoonful’s Herb Mob program engages volunteers to bring locally harvested (gleaned) medicinal plants into our apothecary from local organic farms and green spaces such as Shelburne Farms. www.spoonfulherbals.org
