Kate Street Big Band presents: The Great American Songbook – the soundtrack of a century
Kate Street Big Band (KSBB) continue their run of sell-out afternoons at the Brisbane Jazz Club with a celebration of rhythm, romance and the Great American Songbook.
Showcasing the pioneering composers of Tin Pan Alley, the big Broadway showstoppers, and the hottest Hollywood musicals, KSBB will roll out hit after timeless hit.
George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin and Jerome Kern – masters of melody who transformed modern life. Duke Ellington, Harold Arlen, Johnny Mercer, Lorenz Hart, and Rodgers and
Hammerstein – these prodigious talents pumped out classic songs that have endured for decades.
In this high-powered show, KSBB honour a wonderful collection of jazz standards and star performers, like Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Louis Armstrong.
Expect energetic swing, smooth ballads and lush jazz harmonies, all wrapped up in the timeless style of the Great American Songbook, which Tony Bennett said was “America’s classical music”.
Kate Street is a 20-piece big band that plays a variety of jazz, from early swing to contemporary, Latin and everything in between. Under the baton of multi-instrumentalist musical director Tamara Gibb, the band features dynamic jazz vocalist Naomi Doessel.
