House Republicans introduced NSPM-7 as HR 9495 –
- a bill that would empower the Treasury
Secretary, and by extension, the President,
to unilaterally designate a nonprofit as a
“terrorist-supporting organization”.
This echoes the House Un-American Activities Committee of the McCarthy Era, which used its broad powers to interrogate actors, blacklist screenwriters, target community arts groups, and even shut down charitable and civil rights organizations.
A country where criticism of the president is treated as terrorism is not a free country!
