St John Ambulance's annual "Save a Life September" campaign is a major initiative to teach the public essential first aid skills. The campaign focuses on three key areas:* CPR and using a defibrillator: Research from the charity shows that many people are not confident in their ability to perform CPR or use a defibrillator, even though using these tools can significantly increase survival rates from a cardiac arrest.
* Choking: St John Ambulance provides guidance on how to help someone who is choking.
* Severe bleeding: The campaign also teaches people how to manage and control severe bleeding.
Throughout September, St John Ambulance holds free, public demonstrations and offers online resources and first aid guides to help people learn these life-saving skills. The goal is to empower people to be able to help in an emergency, particularly for those they care about, before professional medical services arrive.
