How does some slide guitar, stomp box and banging blues from Pip Payne sound?Ōtaki-based Pip Payne describes his music as being informed by the blending of five strands. Chronologically: British 50-60s folk and early ragtime guitar, British skiffle / rock and roll, Early American Blues, (especially trance blues) and early Gospel Blues.
His latest release, ‘My Lovely Death’ is an EP which Pip says is “textured by who I call the secret local Wrecking Crew, with gorgeous piano and keys by Dayle Jellyman, lush guitars, production and mixing by Birdwood Studio’s Chris Armour, wonderful textured percussion by Darryn Sigley, firm yet smooth drums and a packed lunch with Richard Te One. Dependable deep end bass by Steve Moodie.
