About this Event
Taught in the traditional Unshin style passed on by Japanese tutor Junka, participants will first create their own Sashiko thimble, then learn how to use it to guide the needle in rhythmic, meditative stitching. The class will cover the history and cultural roots of Sashiko as both functional mending and folk art, followed by a practical project either a small Azuma bag or a visible-mending piece on a favourite garment. This is a free workshop supported by Auckland Libraries as part of the World of Cultures 2026.
