Sashiko is a time-honored Japanese Mending and Embroidery practice. From a simple running stitch, interlocking, geometric patterns emerge onto textiles. With focus on exploring decorative aspects of the craft, workshop participants will learn how use Sashiko’s "small stabs" to create a set of coasters or a four-square patchwork sampler.
Choose from a variety of traditional Hitomezashi -one stitch Sashiko patterns on a small grid; horizontal rows, tiny plus signs, linked steps, star stitch, rice stitch, or woven tortoise.
Take home kit includes; a pair of Sashiko needles, 4 rescued fabric squares of denim or linen, tapestry needle threader, pattern instructions, colorful Sashiko threads, plus access to all necessary communal materials. Bring your good reading glasses, water bottle, and snack.
Everyone will work at their own pace whether a novice or experienced stitcher. Begin or continue your serene handwork practice, all skill levels welcome!
