About this Event
Sankofa Selections invites artists to revisit pieces from their past and bring them back into the present. Inspired by the Akan concept of Sankofa, meaning “go back and get it,” this weekend long exhibition celebrates art that deserves a second moment. Expect rediscovered favorites, abandoned experiments, and works that feel completely different with time and distance.
This show kicks off the Sixpence Art Series, a one-month pop-up gallery exploring time, creativity, and artistic risk. Inspired by the wedding rhyme “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue… and a sixpence in her shoe,” each exhibition interprets one piece of the tradition through art. Sankofa Selections represents “something old,” honoring the idea that creativity grows in cycles and the past still has something to say.
