Bomba Dance Workshop with Luz AlvaradoExperience the power, rhythm, and living history of Bomba, one of Puerto Rico’s oldest Afro-Indigenous dance traditions. In this workshop, master teacher Luz Alvarado guides participants through the foundational movements, cultural context, and call-and-response relationship between dancer and drummer that makes Bomba so alive and dynamic.
This workshop centers the body as storyteller—honoring ancestral memory, resistance, and joy. Participants will explore posture, footwork, skirts (if applicable), musical cues, and improvisation while learning how Bomba creates dialogue between movement and rhythm. No prior dance experience is required; all bodies and levels are welcome.
Come ready to move, listen, and connect—to the drum, to community, and to yourself.
