Come on a musical journey celebrating over 50 years of Sand Williams singing in the Territory with past loved song covers, and original songs. There will be anecdotes to entertain and inform adding little known interesting contextual details, humorous interludes and new songs not sung publicly before that Sand is eager to present for the first time.The setting is cabaret with tables of eight including complimentary canapes and grazing platters, as well as bar facilities set up for drink purchases nearby to create a relaxed atmosphere. There will be two special guest performers who will be sure to surprise and delight. The event is a thank you to fans who have asked to hear more music after a 10-year public performing hiatus and who have continued to encourage Sand to create an event such as this. The theme - Better Late Than Never. Thank You for the Years - alludes to ending the hiatus and performing once more as a thank you for the years of support.
Sand has achieved a few Territory firsts from the first music film clip of a female artist produced by Channel 8 for television to the first female Territory artist to win a heat of Bert Newton’s New Faces and the first Territory artist to win a special award at Tamworth’s Starmaker, not normally presented, to name a few.
The journey will touch on these achievements and the songs that were significant. There will be a little of everything, from a folk song or two sung at the gun turret to original songs performed at Browns Mart, to Melbourne and Bert Newton’s New Faces, and the opening of AANT Centre (then known as the Darwin Performing Arts Centre). The songs that were performed at these events are part of the musical journey, as well as a new jazz song or two. Doug Loft on grand piano, will be accompanying Sand with her distinctive contralto voice. For variety there will be music tracks for some songs and screen visuals that will add a new inspiring dimension to each song presentation.
The audience will be encouraged to sing along to make an evening to enjoy and remember.
