About this Event
Step into the world of taiko through an interactive workshop led by internationally acclaimed ensemble San Jose Taiko. Inspired by Swingposium - San Jose Taiko’s groundbreaking immersive performance project blending taiko, jazz, swing dance, and theatre, this workshop explores how rhythm and movement can bring hidden histories to life.
Drawing from the stories of Japanese American incarceration camps during World War II, Swingposium highlights the resilience, creativity, and community built through music and dance during a difficult chapter in American history.
Participants will:
- Learn sections of taiko choreography from the production
- Explore the relationship between rhythm, movement, and storytelling
- Experience elements of swing rhythm and dance alongside taiko drumming
- Engage with the cultural and historical inspiration behind the work
- Collaborate in an energetic, welcoming, and creative environment
No previous taiko experience is required. This workshop is open to drummers, dancers, musicians, performers, educators, community arts participants, and anyone curious about intercultural storytelling through performance.
