About the event
SAN DIEGO WINDS
CLASSICS REIMAGINED
Wednesday, June 17, 2026 • 7:30 p.m.
Crill Hall, Point Loma Nazarene University
Join San Diego Winds for an evening of chamber wind music exploring how composers transform familiar traditions into enduring masterpieces.
The program opens with Gordon Jacob's beloved Old Wine in New Bottles, a charming and colorful collection of English folk songs reimagined for the concert stage. Robert Kurka's Good Soldier Schweik Suite brings to life one of literature's most enduring characters through music that is witty, energetic, and deeply expressive. The evening concludes with Gustav Holst's landmark First Suite in E-flat, heard in a rare chamber instrumentation that reveals new colors, textures, and details within one of the most influential works ever written for wind band.
Performed by a select ensemble of 22 professional musicians under the direction of James Sepulvado, Classics Reimagined offers audiences a unique opportunity to experience wind band masterworks in an intimate setting where every voice matters and every detail comes alive.
