About this Event
Samurai Brotherhood Movie Night & Open HouseSponsored by Sacred Band

Sacred Band is a monthly squad in the Samurai Brotherhood for gay, bi, bicurious and trans men. Members of this squad are also part of weekly squads that include men of any sexual orientation or sexual identity, as long as the person identifies as a man.

Who can attend
  • Samurai Brotherhood members, whether in Sacred Band or not.
  • Men interested in finding out more about Sacred Band and the Brotherhood.

This is a chance for existing brotherhood members, whether in Sacred Band or not, to enjoy a funny movie that explores sexuality and masculinity, and to introduce potential new members to our organization in a casual, fun environment.

Schedule

Bonus show 6:30 p.m.: Arrive at 6:30 p.m. to see a reality TV show (less than 30 minutes) starring Sacred Band captain Richard Dalton and his husband Luis Grisales. The show follows them as they plan their commitment ceremony on the TV series “Whose Wedding is it Anyway?” which appeared on Slice in 2008.

Movie 7 p.m.: In and Out, starring Kevin Kline and Joan Cusack.

The 1997 comedy In and Out begins with a shocker: Cameron Drake (Matt Dillon) wins an Oscar for playing a gay soldier in a movie. At the Oscars, he thanks his high school drama teacher, Howard Brackett (Kevin Kline), and says to millions of TV viewers, “And he’s gay.” The news comes as a surprise to Brackett’s students, principal, parents – and his fiancee (Joan Cusack) and Brackett himself. Angry, Brackett insists he is straight. That’s just the first few minutes of a movie that hilariously explores sexuality and masculinity.

Bring snacks to share.

Arrive 7 p.m. for In and Out movie.

Hang out and chill the movie.

FAQ

What is the Samurai Brotherhood?

A community for conscious men whose teachings are based on the Code of the Conscious Warrior, which consists of 14 pointers designed to offer a framework of overarching guidance for modern men.

What does the Samurai Brotherhood do?

We explore what it means to be a conscious, self-aware man in today’s world. We aim to help men to access and embody their masculine essence in a balanced way and support them in becoming stronger and more confident, focused, balanced and grounded. We help men to align with their life purpose and be a more effective presence in the world, to live at their edge, overcome limiting patterns from the past, and find peace both inwardly and outwardly.

How can I find out more?

We won't have a presentation about the brotherhood. Instead, chat with men attending the movie night. Or visit our website

Where did Sacred Band get its name?

The squad is named after the Sacred Band of Thebes of around 378 BCE, an elite unit of the Theban army that consisted of 150 gay lovers fighting side by side. The fierce fighting unit was celebrated throughout Greece for its military success and courage.
