Porto Seguro, along with special guest jazz saxophonist Robert Lewis, will present a collaboration that seamlessly melds Porto’s Brazilian musical style with Lewis’ masterful jazz interpretations. The first concert in Porto's 2025/2026 series, an afternoon of samba, bossa, choro, and jazz, will be on Sunday, November 2 at 4:30 PM at Gage Hall.With Alva Anderson’s soulful voice as its centerpiece, Charleston-based Porto Seguro performs Brazilian samba, bossa, and MPB. Anderson plus instrumentalists: Susan Conant, flute; John Holenko, mandolin; Tom Noren, guitar; John Kennedy, bass; and Bryce Waldron-Noren, drums, plays Brazilian favorites and lesser-known but equally terrific tunes to make your toes tap and your heart sing.
Based in Charleston, SC, Robert Lewis is in demand as an artist and clinician, both as a leader and as a sideman. He is the Director of Jazz Studies at the College of Charleston and is the Director of the acclaimed Charleston Jazz Orchestra. Robert leads his own quartets and trios, and has performed with virtually every major jazz artist in South Carolina.
